Zippers are common fasteners in our lives. Although the zipper is small, it is very important for a piece of clothing. Whether it is a brass zipper, a plastic zipper or a nylon zipper, we need to be careful to maintain it, otherwise it may cause the zipper to not work properly, then a piece of clothing will be broken. In order to keep the zipper clean and functioning, you need to master a few tips.
1. Avoid color transfer
Sometimes, Light-colored fabrics may be soiled by certain layers of special material on the zipper surface. For instance, color transfer may happen when polyester tape dyeing with disperse dyes directly contacts with the adhesive or oil of synthetic leather or PVC tape. To avoid color transfer resulting from temperature, pressure, humidity or long-time contact, we can put a piece of paper between the adhesive zipper and fabrics.
2. Washing
To avoid the slider scratch fabrics and the tape will shrink,Please zip zipper and fix the slider before washing cloth.
Strong detergents and chlorine-containing bleach will dissolve the paraffin wax and oily film on the zipper surface. If the lubricated zipper is difficult to close and open after washing, smear soap or other lubricate substances on teeth and then zip zipper for a few times.Painted sliders should be wrapped with cloth before washing to prevent paint layer from peeling off.
3. Oxidation
Metal zippers made of copper will be blackened due to oxidation when applied to woolen cloth. Residual chemical substance and bleaching agent after manufacturing leather or wool products are able to release gas which is reactive to metal zipper, resulting in the color change of zippers. In addition, there is vulcanization if metal zippers are bound by rubber band containing sulfide.So,in consideration of metal`s oxidation, although electroplated zipper sliders have been taken rustproof treatment, please wrap them with special paper to reduce discoloration and scratch.
4. Ironing
Ironing temperature should be changed properly depending on cloth material, which is also applicable to ironing zippers. Ironing good quality zippers under correct heat can keep them normal and beautiful.
Before ironing, close zippers, fix pullers in a proper position and put them on a horizontal place, and then cover zippers with a piece of cloth. Don`t contact zippers directly when ironing.
5. Stuck Zipper
When closing and opening zippers, sometimes a slider will get stuck on fabrics. Under this circumstance, trying to move it by stronger force will make it worse. What you should do is to remove the stuck pieces of fabrics and pull the slider back with little force. Also note the smoothness of the zipper when sewing.
Make sure that zippers are fully open when you putting on or taking off clothing and It`s better to button or hook your pants before zipping zippers. Do the above, your apparel zippers will be very strong and durable
